OverviewThe mission of the National Consumer Tribunal (NCT) is the provision of accessible adjudication and redress to advance socio-economic welfare in South Africa. The NCT derives its mandate from Section 27 of the National Credit Act.
The role of the Tribunal is to adjudicate on: applications made in terms of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 or the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 by consumers, credit providers, credit bureaux, debt counsellors, the National Credit Regulator and the National Consumer Commission; applications for interim relief and review decisions by the National Credit Regulator and the National Consumer Commission; matters referred to the Tribunal by the National Credit Regulator or the National Consumer Commission regarding complaints related to allegations of prohibited conduct; and applications for debt re-arrangement agreements to be made an order of the Tribunal in terms of the National Credit Act 34 of 2005 or consent orders in terms of the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008.
