Overview
The mission of the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP) is to serve the best interests of the social service practitioners, professions and service users by regulating, leading and promoting the social service professions in an innovative and responsive manner.
The objectives of the Council are to: strive for social justice through the promotion and enhancement of developmental social welfare; determine strategic policy with regard to the professions under the Council's auspices, for matters such as finance, education, registration, ethics and professional conduct, disciplinary procedures, acts to be performed by the professions, interprofessional matters, and maintenance of professional competence; coordinate the activities of the social service professional boards and act as an advisory and communicatory body for such professional boards; control and exercise authority regarding finances; promote and regulate interprofessional liaison between social service professions in the interest of the public; assist in the promotion of social services; protect and promote the interests of the social service professions; consult and liaise with relevant authorities on matters affecting the professional boards in general; control and exercise general authority in respect of matters affecting social service education and training, and the manner in which the practices pursued in the promotion of social services to the population of the country are exercised; promote liaison in social service education and training, and promote and quality-assure the standards of such education and training; and advise the Minister on any matter falling within the scope of the Act in order to support the universal norms and values of the social service professions, with the emphasis on professional practice, democracy, transparency, equity, accessibility and community involvement.
