Overview
Luthuli Museum is a national heritage institution dedicated to preserving, promoting and celebrating the life, values and enduring legacy of Chief Albert John Luthuli, South Africa's first African Nobel Peace Prize laureate and a prominent leader in the country's struggle for freedom, democracy and human rights. Located in Groutville, KwaZulu-Natal, the Museum incorporates Chief Luthuli's original family home, a declared national heritage site, together with a modern interpretive centre that provides visitors with an engaging educational and cultural experience.
Operating under the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture, the Museum collects, conserves, researches and interprets historical artefacts, archival material and exhibitions that reflect Chief Luthuli's philosophy of non-violence, ethical leadership, social justice and human dignity. Through its exhibitions, educational programmes, public outreach initiatives and research activities, the Museum promotes heritage awareness, civic education and a deeper understanding of South Africa's liberation history.
