Overview
The Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and
Training Authority (MICT SETA) is a skills development institution established
in terms of the Skills Development Act of 1998, mandated to generate,
facilitate and accelerate quality skills development at all levels within the
MICT sector in South Africa. The MICT sector comprises five interconnected yet
distinct subsectors, namely advertising, film and electronic media,
electronics, information technology, and telecommunications.
As a key enabler of South Africa’s digital transformation agenda, the MICT SETA plays a strategic role in advancing skills that support the growth and sustainability of the digital economy, while ensuring responsiveness to the evolving demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). This includes driving programmes that equip learners, workers and enterprises with future-fit digital, technical and innovation-driven capabilities required in an increasingly technology-enabled economy.
The MICT SETA intends to engage in learning programmes and quality assurance of education and training initiatives that lead to employment, entrepreneurship and new venture creation, while simultaneously implementing programmes aimed at bridging the digital divide, particularly in rural and underserved communities. Through these interventions, the MICT SETA seeks to promote inclusive participation in the digital economy and strengthen the sector’s capacity to respond to emerging technologies and industry needs.
